Sean Taggart of the ministerial advisory panel for leadership and management claims that skills training and recruitment investment is as important for a business as IT.

He said: "Investment in training and development for both themselves and their people is as essential for their business success as IT or any of the investments decisions they make day in day out."

Mr Taggart notes that skills gaps are a particular problem for SMEs, where skills are a crucial part of surviving in an uncertain environment.
