Remote email 'should be embraced by employees'

Sales jobs account managers on the move should see remote and mobile email access as an opportunity rather than a burden, Vodafone has claimed.

Remote connections to work could get more widespread following the introduction of new flexible working rules by the government.

But according to Vodafone UK's mobile email expert Bryony Clow, mobile internet and email access should be about "using your time more wisely".

She said: "Four days in a month [are] wasted through not having mobile email and those days are made up of having meetings and travelling between meetings.

"It's not saying you need to work over lunch but there are things that you can do to use the time wisely at work, and then there are more ways it can relieve stress out of work."

Research by Bellwether suggests that one in seven UK employers demand a response in just 30 minutes from employees with remote email access.

Some 58 per cent of companies believe that all employees are likely to need remote email access to tackle the growing demand for immediate responses.
