Excitement over iPhone 'hotting up'
Excitement over communication gadget the iPhone is increasing, with 1.3 million people conducting online searches using the term in April of this year.
According to figures produced by comScore, these individuals - who may have included people in sales jobs keen to spend their hard-earned commission - completed a total of 6.9 million searches for the word over the period.
The digital measurement firm suggested that the popularity of the device underwent an increase in April due to speculation concerning the release by Apple of the 3G iPhone, which it went on to unveil at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
Commenting on the phenomenon, Dan Lackner, comScore senior vice-president, said: "The increase in volume of iPhone searches demonstrates just how heavy that interest has been for the next generation of Apple's popular phone - even when its existence was still just a rumour."
Established in 1976, Apple is a manufacturer of consumer electronics and closely-related software packages.
