Simple satnav 'should be easy'

Most people should be able to manage their satnav systems, according to the head of road safety with the AA.

Andrew Howard commented that the most basic instructions should be accessible to all drivers without the need for a manual, in comments that may interest people whose sales jobs require them to drive.

However, problems may occur at the more advanced levels of satnav, added Mr Howard.

"On my satnav, if someone asked me to reprogramme it to arrange me a route without going on the M25 I wouldn't have a clue," he pointed out, noting that a lot of modern technology is easy at the basic level while advanced functions are difficult to grasp.

Research by consumer review site Reevoo.com has discovered that 21 per cent of Britons find it difficult to understand their satnav systems, while one in five adults cannot work many of the functions on their mobile phones.
