Candidates 'should beware social networking websites'

Employers are becoming more able to track would-be job candidates through social networking websites such as Twitter, it has been revealed.

According to Onrec.com, information put on a Twitter profile is automatically saved, allowing people to look back at every post a user has ever made.

The site reported comments by Gill Turnock, group director at recruitment specialist Sellick Partnership that derogatory or offensive opinions could scupper candidates' chances of getting their dream job.

She added: "Employers use social networking sites regularly to check up on current employees and prospective ones. It is important that you bear in mind the impact of including sensitive information about your work or personal life."

Earlier this week, recruitment website SalesJobs.net claimed candidates looking for sales positions should conduct research into their desired position in order to prepare for success.

The company went on to say that the positions for sales jobs that offered the most vacancies in the last quarter of 2008 were sales manager, pharmaceutical sales representative and cashier.
