Smaller firms 'choosy in job interviews'

People who apply for jobs at smaller firms after working at larger enterprises need to shift their mindset to give themselves the best chance of securing the post, it has been claimed.

According to human capital strategies provider Kerge Consulting, some smaller firms are expanding and hiring because they are able to serve cost-conscious clients less expensively than larger enterprises.

Kathryn Kerge, founder and president of the group, commented: "Coming off as an appealing candidate to a small company is no mean feat for a lot of capable people who have been reared in large organisations, many of which are now downsizing."

Ms Kerge went on to say that smaller firms can now be choosy when it comes to who they employ and can select the person who not only has the best qualifications but who also feels right from a cultural perspective.

Last week, staffing service Accountemps claimed that employers believe it is OK for job applicants to discuss compensation during interviews.
