Graduate jobseekers 'must exercise patience'

Graduate employment candidates must remain realistic and patient in their search for jobs in the current recruitment market, it has been claimed.

Jobseekers' advice website CollegeJobBank.com advised that recent graduates can improve their chances of finding employment by being willing to work their way up from a lower position in a firm and considering multiple posts.

Rich Milgram, chief executive of recruitment solutions provider Beyond.com, commented: "In today's economy, it's important that new grads remain realistic, patient and flexible in their job search and not be afraid to lean on their parents, who have experienced multiple economic downturns, for old-fashioned career advice."

He added that jobseekers should combine these qualities with attributes they already possess, such as being ambitious, confident, goal-orientated and willing to exercise their independence.

Earlier this week, Patrice Barbadette, founder of people solutions provider Jobpartners, commented that using the internet when looking for employment can help speed up the recruitment process for candidates and companies.
