Jobseekers 'must project presence'

By John Oak

A job interviewee's speaking voice may be the difference between securing a position and missing out, it has been claimed.

Renee Grant-Williams, expert voice coach to business professionals and political candidates, commented that clear audible projection signifies a strong presence.

She added that people who use their entire body when they speak give the impression they are a person of substance.

Ms Grant-Williams continued: "The way your voice represents you is an essential part of the impression you make. During an interview, selling your presence is as important as selling your skills. It all comes down to what you communicate about yourself."

She went on to recommend having a short workout the morning of a big interview as this will get the blood flowing and increase energy and vitality.

Last month Joy Gendusa, chief executive of PostcardMania, commented that jobseekers should take pains to come across confident but not cocky in interviews.
