Changes to retirement age will 'help over-50s find sales jobs'

Amendments to the default retirement age in the UK will help over-50s find sales jobs and remain in employment, according to an industry expert.

Law changes are currently being considered in Whitehall which would see the default retirement age being scrapped and the right to request flexible working extended to all.

Laith Khalaf, pensions analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said that the law changes would help people in his demographic continue in the jobs market.

"People do find it difficult at the moment in that sense and there is a case to suggest that prolonging working life will make it easier for those people to regain employment should they be laid off,"

Mr Khalaf also said that, with state pension age set to go up, we could reach a situation where people are being pushed out of work with three years to wait before they can draw on their savings.
